PHANTOM FURY - Guard Variants

Here's some of my character work on Phantom Fury! I was tasked with creating variation within the ranks of the human enemies. When I first came onboard to Slipgate-Ironworks full time, the base guard enemies, excellently modeled and textured by someone else, were still very much the state they were in when the game released the public demo. No visual variation at all, nor any differentiation between role. The job was pretty fun, as it's something I poked away at in the background from joining the team right up to shipping. Every head variant was either a fellow employee or a friend. Believe it or not, these textures were mostly straight up hand painted in blender's texture tools. I normally hate using them, but these were so small that I didn't feel pressured to work non-destructively. It was super comfy to just be able to pretty much take a break and essentially paint portraits! The only shame is that the rigs + animation was locked in so I couldn't edit their UVs, I'd have liked to have been able to even out the texel density around the eyes!
